"This season brings fresh takes on favorites, including the first double-chair on The Voice, a new spin on America’s Got Talent and a tropical setting for Deal or No Deal Island," Frances Berwick, Chairman, NBCUniversal Entertainment told the outlet. ET on the 18, as it will follow Law and Order and precede Law and Order: Organized Crime. Deadline detailed that viewers can expect to tune in at 9 P.M. While it's unclear when filming officially begins, at least we know when the new season will be brought to life. "SO excited! □❤️ I can’t wait to see Captain Benson on my screen again!" a different follower rejoiced. Olivia Benson is back! Let's go record-breaking Season 2️⃣5️⃣," another wrote, referencing the iconic amount of time SVU has been on the air. "MOTHER IS COMING HOME," one person exclaimed on Instagram. Maybe soon it might even find a second wind, relatively speaking.A post shared by Mariska fans discovered the shocking update Mariska announced about Law and Order: SVU season 25, it wasn't long before people voiced their excitement in the comments. In spite of some woeful casting decisions, it has never had a truly dull moment. Were I giving Law & Order a score, it would be a solid ten out of ten. Even the excruciating Carey Lowell made a half-decent fist of such a return. It is not a coincidence that many of the District Attorney characters who quit often wind up coming back in guest appearances. In the end, one gets to see that while the system is not perfect, it works hard to protect everyone, which is just the way it should be. This is a good thing, however, as a less sugar-coated version of the system makes for much more compelling viewing. Blatant murderers go free because someone at the lab screws up a test, people we sympathise with in spite of their guilt are sent to prison and meet grisly fates, or some of the inequities of the system are displayed in such bold colour its a wonder the show hasn't been clamped down upon by the current President. Another aspect that sets Law & Order apart is its ability to show that even the simplest of cases do not always have a happy ending. Although many of the stories are uniquely American in nature, a fair percentage are of the kind that could literally happen anywhere. Although they are quite relevant to the modern era, they show no signs of dating, with a story from the first season often seeming as current as a story from the most recent, changes in prices, fashions, or cultures notwithstanding. Aside from the cast dynamic, the stories are what makes the show truly work. All good things must come to an end, even if many would prefer a bad Law & Order to a good Survivor. Now that three of this foursome have left the show, and no less than three attempts to fill the very big void left by Hennessy have failed, it looks like Law & Order has long passed its apex. Indeed, the true golden era of the show was with Jerry Orbach, Benjamin Bratt, Jill Hennessy, and Sam Waterston. I doubt that anyone is going to look upon the era in which Jill Hennessy was replaced by Carey Lowell, indisputably the worst Bond girl of all time, with any great kindness. Like any long-running television series, Law & Order has had its ups and downs. Very simple at first, but it is the complex relationships between the regular cast, as well as the quirks of the guest stars, that make the show what it is. Then the district attorneys attempt to prosecute the case. First, the police, almost always represented by two particular detectives, gather evidence and make inquiries. Law & Order begins with a witness running into a victim, or a victim coming forth after some kind of unspeakable act. Competent police or prosecution lawyers did not exist in this highly fictitious setting, so Law & Order turned that on its head. Before Law & Order, the majority of television shows about lawyers showed defense lawyers doing the police's job and solving cases for them. The premise is as refreshing as it is simple. Which makes those of us with an active brain in our heads all the more grateful that a simple two-act series about criminal prosecution can last for fourteen-plus years. As attempts to create something imaginative or different get cancelled faster than Mike Tyson can embarrass the sport of boxing, the drivel that we call Reality TV just keeps on keeping on. Television in Western society has become something of a cultural and imaginative wasteland, with the lowest common denominator now firmly in charge. We practice Zen meditation together 1-2 days a week. Traditionally, in China and Korea, only monastics engaged in Zen meditation, usually spending at least six months each year in retreat. No figure in the history of Zen is more closely associated with meditation practice than the thirteenth-century Japanese master Dogen. Here's a comprehensive guide to the 1500-year-old tried and tested practice of Zen meditation that will bring tranquility to your life. The history of Buddhist education is long and complex. I wish to expound on Zen Buddhist perspectives on modern education. Up against the final 16 words such as bitcoin, bestie, ew, retweet, zen, woot, booyah, cosplay, lifehack, and adorbs, geocache came out as the final winner. Travelling home, feeling all zen, was an altogether mushier affair than the journey there.Ī late Song painter named Yu Jian, adept to Tiantai buddhism, created a series of splashed ink landscapes that eventually inspired many Japanese zen painters. Usually made in one spontaneous brush stroke, it became the paradigm of the minimalist aesthetic that guided part of the zen painting. The bird drawings are often simple zen like sketches that have either one bird or in some paintings hundreds of birds in one large drawing. Intially I assumed that it was deliberately harmful, but the more I think about it, perhaps it's intended more as the bop on the head from your zen master. Zazen, seated meditation, is the basic practice in zen. The Japanese word zen is the phonetic transcription of the Chinese character chan, which means meditation. There you will find extensive accounts of this and other forms of quackery, from Ayurveda and aromatherapy to zen shiatsu to zone therapy. If somebody should ask you what true zen is, it´s not necessary to explain using words. Perhaps I need to find a private moment of zen each day, a way to let the aggravation fly away from here. Even without the pod, the true seed is large (for a legume) there are only 28,000 seeds per pound. The “seed” used to establish this crop is, in fact, a pod which contains a single seed. Sainfoin grows taller than alfalfa, its stem is hollow, there are many leaflets (like a vetch) and its flowers, which are pink, are borne on a raceme. Tests show that it will not tolerate saline soils and that it is not as winterhardy as the locally-recommended cultivars of alfalfa. It yields best on deep, well-drained soils, and will not withstand wet soils or high water tables. Shoshone Sainfoin is deep-rooted and very drought-resistant, provided the annual rainfall is 12 inches or over. The variety “Shoshone Sainfoin” was named in honor of Chief Washakie of the Eastern Shoshone Tribe. Shoshone was jointly released in 2005 by the College of Agriculture, Agricultural Experiment Stations at the University of Wyoming and Montana State University, and by the United States Department of Agriculture, Natural Resources Conservation Service at Bridger, MT. It expressed a higher level of tolerance to the parasite than ‘Remont’ sainfoin by having greater shoot/root weight and lower plant mortality. Shoshone is the preferred variety when sugar beets or other root crops are included in an irrigated crop rotation. It has good drought tolerance, winter hardiness, and is also resistant to alfalfa stem nematode. It was developed by intercrossing the surviving plants remaining in an irrigated sainfoin variety trial infested with the Northern Root-knot nematode in southeastern Wyoming. Shoshone Sainfoin (Onobrychis viciifolia) was selected for it’s tolerance of northern root-knot nematode. 84 mm in GAC filters.Ī GAC water filter uses carbon to remove some bad odors, tastes, and sediment from tap water with high efficiency. Similar to carbon block filters in function but different in form and features, GAC filters use a bed of granulated carbon to remove impurities. What is a Granular Activated Carbon (GAC) Water Filter? Let’s dig into the differences and examine which may be better for you. Among these carbon water filters, there are two common types: carbon block, and granular activated carbon (GAC). Zooming out a bit, let’s compare two different types of activated carbon water filters. Whether you choose a compressed or extruded carbon block filter, you’re making a great investment in healthy drinking water. Compressed carbon block filters are also more expensive. Because of the high heat involved, highly porous binding agents are used to make compressed carbon block filters, making them ideal water filters. Extruded carbon block filters are heated, die-cast, extruded (hence the name), and cut to size.Ĭarbon compression is the more labor-intensive of the two processes, and not surprisingly, yields the higher quality results. Compressed carbon block filters are constructed individually at high heats using a mold. The difference is in how these filters are created. Both carbon filter types are actually a mix of carbon, mixed media, and a binding element. The two most common types of carbon block filters are compressed and extruded. What are the types of Carbon Block Filters? This process is known as physical adsorption. The carbon block itself, in conjunction with physical molecular binders, can also attract particles of different sizes from your drinking water. As water passes through the outside layer of the filter, this layer acquires a positive ionic charge, thus attracting negatively-charged contaminant molecules. Electrokinetic adsorption is more technical. Think of it like a strainer: small water particles pass through while larger contaminant particles get held back. The mechanical filtration process is all about particle size. Water filtration using a carbon block may seem like a straightforward process, but there are actually several ways to do it, including: These carbon filters can be used in combination with other technologies like reverse osmosis, or used on their own. A carbon block filter acts like a magnet microscopic contaminants like PFAS are filtered out while clean water passes through. What is a Carbon Block Water Filter?Ī solid carbon block water filter is just that, a block of finely ground and compressed carbon that water passes through during filtration. One of the additional benefits of this process of filtration is that healthy minerals remain in your water, so you’ll get the most out of every sip. The filter also physically removes sediment and other larger contaminants.īecause activated carbon is highly effective and relatively inexpensive, it is a very popular filter type on the market today. These contaminant molecules bond with the carbon, and clean drinking water flows through the other side of the filter and into your pitcher. In scientific terms, the positive ionic charges in the carbon attract the negative ionic charges of contaminant particles. During adsorption, molecules of contaminants are attracted to the molecular structure and large surface area of the carbon. When drinking water passes through this type of filter, a process called adsorption happens. What is an Activated Carbon Water Filter?Īctivated carbon is a highly porous material that has a microscopic graphite lattice structure. We’ll discuss what these filters are, what they do, and how they stack up against other water filters. They are then positively charged.Īs water passes through the carbon media, the contaminants are held within deep fissures, on the surface or are altered by the catalytic action of the media.Īctivated carbon performance is dependent in the main upon the contact time between the media and water.Ĭarbon performance will be severely curtailed should a supply contain hydrocarbons.Have you been shopping around for the right filter for your drinking water? In this article, we’ll spotlight one popular water filtration solution: carbon block filters. Most activated carbon water filters are made from crushed coconut shells, which are then treated with steam and pressure, to create a media with an enormous number of porous sites in and over the entire surface. It is primarily used for the reduction of chlorine and related contaminants from tap water supplies.Īctivated carbon improves the taste / odour properties of water and is used to great effect in a wide variety of applications. Kitchen Water Filters - for Homes and OfficesĪctivated carbon (AC) is a specialised water filter media. It’s also free to use, if your repository is public (and even allows for certain free minutes for private repos). Using GitHub Actions meant that we didn’t have to upload our code to a different service every time we made changes. For one, our code-from scrapers to cleaners to aggregators-all lived in GitHub already. In hindsight, it was an ideal choice for a few reasons. We started using GitHub Actions for our COVID–19 scrapers about two years ago. Many of our scrapers feed and update applications like our Coronavirus Tracker, State Elections Money Tracker and Drought Tracker. Some run a couple times a day while others may run once a week. That’s where the challenge is, because who wants to get on their computer and save a csv to a folder on a Sunday?Īt the Los Angeles Times Data and Graphics desk, we use GitHub Actions for almost all of our scrapers that run on a schedule. Getting that data may require some fancy scraper or just a simple curl command that downloads a csv, but either way, the task has to be done on a regular basis. You might be monitoring your state’s monthly WARN notices, or, like many of us, tracking changes in daily COVID–19 cases. You can find a link to both trials at the links below.Sometimes collecting the data once isn’t enough. With both programs you will be able to find new prospects for your business or your clients.Īs always the best way to see what software solution is best for you is to test both of them out. Lead Scrape has no daily or monthly limits, Lead Carrot for the cheaper version you can run about 300 searches a week and with the Professional about 2000. Lead CarrotĬurrently does not have a bulk option but on their website, they say that this is going to be available soon. With Lead Scrape, you can scrape a city at a time or multiple cities. If you are looking to find more results, validated emails and contacts, then LS is the winner. If you are looking for results fast, then LC is best. But if youĪlready have a CRM, and what you are after is lists of b2b leads for your business to grow, then Lead Scrape consistently returned more results for every search we performed. Lead Carrot has recently moved more to become a full CRM, while Lead Scrape is only a lead finder, so if you are actually looking for a software that does both, Lead Carrot I think is the only one on the market at the moment. Let the program do the rest.), and both support any niche worldwide. Lead Scrape returned 362 contact names of people working at the company (usually the Owner, Ceo or Manager) Lead Carrot does not return business contacts.įor the rest of the data returned, the two programs are very similar, they both extract address, phone numbers, social media addresses, email address, reviews.Īs you can see from the comparison, both programs are great for online marketing, they extract more or less the same kind of data, and the way they work is practically the same (add the keyword you want to search and the location, then When you use any lead finder on the market that provides emails, always count in the monthly cost, the price of email verification. Something to keep in mind is that Lead Scrape comes with a free email verification service and integrates with popular email verification services like NeverBounce and others if you want to use an even more advanced verifier. If we look at the final count Lead Scrape wins. Lead Scrape returned 332 emails, Lead Carrot returned 144. When it comes to speed, Leads Carrot wins by a big margin. LC finished in about 1.5 minutes, while LS took about 40 minutes. in this case, it found twice as many leads, but in other searches, the gap is even wider (see the image of other searches below) Speed When it comes to the number of leads returned, Lead Scrape wins. Lead Carrot returned 1118, Lead Scrape returned 2229 leads. Right-click the Catalina Patcher app and select Open. The service discovery file is generated on the head node. The following information guides you on the setup. This function allows you to scrape all metrics in the cluster without knowing their IPs. Ray auto-generates a Prometheus service discovery file on the head node to facilitate metrics agents’ service discovery. Use auto-discovery to export Prometheus metrics when using the Ray cluster launcher, as node IP addresses can often change as the cluster scales up and down. You can allow Prometheus to dynamically find the endpoints to scrape by using Prometheus’ file based service discovery. To scrape the endpoints, we need to ensure service discovery, which allows Prometheus to find the metrics agents’ endpoints on each node. You can then scrape each endpoint to access the metrics. Node and exposes them in a Prometheus format. Each metrics agent collects metrics from the local Ray runs a metrics agent per node to export system and application metrics. To ensure a proper setup, mount the shared volume on the respective path for the container, which contains the recommended configurations to initiate the Prometheus servers. To fix this issue, employ an automated shell script for seamlessly transferring the Prometheus configurations from the Ray container to a shared volume. However, Docker does not support the mounting of symbolic links on shared volumes and you may fail to load the Prometheus configuration files. In the Ray container, the symbolic link “/tmp/ray/session_latest/metrics” points to the latest active Ray session. Loading Ray Prometheus configurations with Docker Compose # See these instructions for how to override the restriction and install or run the application. Users can manually override this requirement. Many developers are not on macOS’s trusted list. When downloading binaries from the internet, macOS requires that the binary be signed by a trusted developer ID. macOS does not trust the developer to install Prometheus # You can then start or restart the services with brew services start prometheus. Instead, change the –config-file line in /usr/local/etc/prometheus.args to read -config.file /tmp/ray/session_latest/metrics/prometheus/prometheus.yml. To configure these services, you cannot simply pass in the config files as command line arguments. Homebrew installs Prometheus as a service that is automatically launched for you. Now, you can access Ray metrics from the default Prometheus URL, Troubleshooting # Using Ray configurations in Prometheus with Homebrew on macOS X # See the “Troubleshooting” guide below to fix the issue. If you are using macOS, you may receive an error at this point about trying to launch an application where the developer has not been verified. Users need to decide where to host and configure it to scrape the metrics from Clusters. Ray doesn’t start Prometheus servers for users. Use Prometheus to scrape metrics from Ray Clusters. View adding application metrics for how to record metrics. View system metrics for more details about the emitted metrics.Īpplication metrics: Application-specific metrics are useful for monitoring your application states. System metrics: Ray exports a number of system metrics. Dashboard agent process is responsible for aggregating and reporting metrics to the endpoints for Prometheus to scrape. Ray exports metrics if you use ray or other installation commands that include Dashboard component. This page provides instructions on how to collect and monitor metrics from Ray Clusters. Users need to manage the lifecycle of the metrics by themselves. Ray does not provide a native storage solution for metrics. Ray records and emits time-series metrics using the Prometheus format. For example, you may want to access a node’s metrics if it terminates unexpectedly. Metrics are useful for monitoring and troubleshooting Ray applications and Clusters. |
